John Woo & Comic book updates …

OK, so my John Woo contest entry isn’t going to happen. I’m bummed, because I haven’t seen any animation or stop-mo entries, and I think I would have had a good shot.

Unfortunately, software problems and hardware failures made the project a no-go. I was going to use Stop-Motion Maker Advance for the effort, but it can’t recognize and drive my Canon camera (previous versions could, so something’s wonky with them). Also, my computer is rebooting sporadically, which makes the intensive editing of stop-mo … problematic.

I’ll publish some of the test footage here at some point, so you can have a taste of the awesomeness that might have been, but was not meant to be.

Check out the entries on the contest MySpace site — there are some quality entries (and some real stinkers).

So, here’s the sobering summary of where my “non-continuity” efforts have ended up:

  1. Comic Book — Comic books formed a big chunk of and continue to inspire my creativity, and I’ve got a lifelong dream to create one. So, now that a contest from my local comic book store has come up to do just that, I’m all over it. And many, many STIKFAS will be involved. And many heroes will die. And be Reborn. And other comic book tropes. (Due June 1st.)
  2. Radio Promotion — This is a contest to promote a local radio station and Austin in general. I had no interest in this until I was awoken by a unique stop-mo deal. Now I’m on it. (Due June 7th.)
  3. John Woo — Hey, it’s YAC (Yet Another Contest). I wrote about it here. (June 25th.)

On the upside, I have something exciting to announce soon about the comic book effort.

Soon …
